RobustPlan - Robust planning of the transmission networks

The energy transition, characterized by decarbonization, decentralization and digitalization of the energy supply system, is causing profound changes. For this reason, it is a particular challenge to identify robust transformation paths for grid development for several decades up to the year 2050.

The RobustPlan research project examines how energy scenarios or changes in the energy mix can achieve a good security of supply while maintaining a high rate of cost efficiency, despite uncertainty in the energy-political framework conditions. This requires more extensive scenarios, probability calculations, sensitivities, and therefore ultimately automation. One sub-goal of Fraunhofer IEE is the focus on the (further) development of an optimization tool and the associated optimization framework. For this purpose, further measures are to be mapped and considered within the optimization tool. Furthermore, the optimization of the grid operation, developed within the framework of the project, is to be taken into account when determining the optimal network expansion requirement.
