BEE -New electricity market design for the integration of fluctuating renewable energies

The expansion of renewable energies in Germany, which is necessary for climate policy, requires a new framework for the energy industry in order to meet the key challenges of the energy transition: Security of supply, financing of renewables and implementation of sector coupling.

The aim of the project is to show how the current policy framework in the electricity market needs to change in order to allow for sufficient economic flexibilities so that the main questions of the energy transition can be answered positively. To this end, the next three decades are examined separately. This study focuses on the economic framework of flexibilities and renewable energies. Thus, only economically viable flexibilities are considered within the study. Thus, a statement can be made about missing flexibilities in the implementation of the energy transition in the electricity market design.
